A desert camp near Merzouga can be a memorable part of a Morocco journey. Yet the word “luxury” does not explain where you will sleep, how you will reach the camp or what the bathroom is like. Compare the practical details of the night before choosing between photographs of tents and dunes.
Start with the exact accommodation
Ask for the camp's identity, the tent category and the bed arrangement for your party. A gallery may show several categories or older photographs. Request images corresponding to the offered accommodation, with a clear description of what is confirmed.
Clarify whether the bathroom is private, whether it is inside the unit and what shower and hot-water arrangements apply. Ask about electricity, charging and heating or cooling where these matter. Avoid treating an adjective in a listing as a substitute for a facility.
Understand the last part of the journey
The road arrival point and the camp are not necessarily the same place. Ask where the main vehicle stops, what transport completes the journey and how long that section normally takes. Find out what happens to large luggage and what you should carry overnight.
Camel riding should be a clearly described activity, not an unexplained condition of reaching your bed. If you prefer another transfer, confirm that it is available and whether it changes the price. Explain any difficulty with mounting, uneven ground or vehicle access before the route is finalised.
Ask about the evening rhythm
Confirm dinner, breakfast and drinks separately. Ask when meals are served and whether dietary needs can be met. A shared dinner, a private table and private entertainment are different arrangements; the confirmation should say which is included.
If a quiet night matters, ask about the camp's evening programme, neighbouring units and how requests for quieter accommodation are handled. No organiser can guarantee complete silence in an open landscape, but the expected atmosphere should be described honestly.
Pack for a night rather than a picture
Bring a small overnight bag, suitable footwear and layers selected for the forecast. Temperatures and wind can change across the day. Keep essential medication and personal items with you instead of leaving them in the main luggage.
Ask about the route between the tent, dining area and transfer point after dark. A torch can be useful. Anyone with access needs should request actual distances, surfaces and steps; a remote setting is not made accessible simply by offering a larger tent.
Keep the morning manageable
A sunrise outing is optional and depends on the group's wishes and conditions. Clarify the departure time and whether breakfast comes before or after it. Protect enough time for the onward drive rather than combining a late camp departure with an overly ambitious next day.
Does “private tent” mean a private camp?
No. It generally describes your accommodation unit. Confirm which other facilities are shared.
Can I skip camel riding?
Request an alternative transfer before booking and have the arrangement included in writing.
Is one camp night enough for a Sahara journey?
Judge it within the complete route. Compare our four-day Marrakech–Merzouga journey, read Agafay versus the Sahara, or send MLV your comfort priorities. The right camp is the one whose confirmed details match your party.
